We have an opportunity for a Field Applications Engineer in our Schaumburg, Illinois office in the Chicago Metro area to provide technical support for the development and implementation of customer microcontroller applications, to continue growth and success in making a difference in people’s lives.

Position Description
This outstanding opportunity allows technically-minded engineers to broaden their system engineering skills and application knowledge, while gaining sales and marketing experience. Our vibrant and dynamic team-oriented work environment offers exposure to a variety of state-of-the art applications technology each day. As a member of our team you will play a key role in securing ST customer commitments and win business by working on-site with customers and in support of their engineering teams, who are developing a variety of applications. The primary area of focus will be microcontroller applications across a wide range of electronic markets using ST’s ARM Cortex-M based STM32 MCU family.


Minimum Requirements

BS Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Computer Engineering including microcontroller related course work.

To be effective in this role, this engineer is expected to:

  • Recommend and implement microcontroller and/or processor solutions to customers
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing team to align proper product offering to end customer opportunities
  • Take customers’ designs to revenue by providing prompt and thorough technical support for on-going design activity
  • Use expert knowledge to tailor feedback to the product division for new product development
  • Present at ST technical conferences and facilitate product specific customer training sessions
  • Travel to multiple locations for customer engagements

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience that includes ARM MCU hardware, firmware, system software and system integration experience
  • Code development and debugging skills in assembly, embedded C, C++, with and without a real time operating system (RTOS)
  • Hardware troubleshooting skills using an oscilloscope, logic analyzers, and signal generators
  • Experience with peripherals such as USART, SPI, I2C, USB, CAN and Ethernet with associated protocols in addition to analog peripherals that include ADC, DAC, comparators, and operational amplifiers
  • Knowledge of graphics and DSP
  • Knowledge of communication protocol stacks such as TCP/IP, Bluetooth Low Energy, and LoRaWAN
  • Experience working with distribution sales, marketing, and applications teams
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
